Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • HELP - No brakes, hunting idle/stall and loss of power.

Car was running perfectly. Gave her a wash and took her for a spin.
Whilst about 5km away from home and sitting at a set of traffic lights, the idle started spluttering and hunting then stalled.
At the first bend I noticed I had no brakes at all.

Now that the car is home, I still have no brakes, dodgy idle and a lack of power.
Could this be one single vacuum line?

    Any help woud be appreciated.
Mk IV Golf GTI - BMP - GIAC chip, R32 wheels, KW coilovers, rear swaybar.

Definitely sounds like a vacuum issue...
    Nothing to see here...

check all connections and hoses - did you use a power sprayer under the bonnet?

I agree but where to start?

No. I haven't popped the bonnet for months.
Will have to have a look on the weekend, concentrating on the vacuum advance hose from the manifold to the brake booster.
Am open to other possible suggestions, Thanks!

Found it! Had a split plastic hose under where the airbox joins the turbo.
Can't help but think this part would have been less likely to split if it was actually rubber and not plastic.

Thank you for your help. Is good to have brakes again!
