  • Golf Relay ticking when doing 100 km/h

    Hi guys.

So my 2.0L has a relay that is ticking when you are doing 100km/h for more then 5 minutes. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or would know what could cause it?

    Thanks,

Just look behind and see if Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves are in the back seat with worried looks about not dropping below 100.....

What relay is clicking? If it's the turn/hazard relay, it could be a problem with the contacts in the turn signal switch leaking voltage to the relay or the relay itself. There was a recall on the hazard switch on some cars for an improved version. Replacing the switch or disassembling it and treating it with contact cleaner might help. Do your indicators function as they should?

        Hi RolfGolf.

        Thanks, for the reply.

I'm not sure which relay it is that's the problem but yes my indicators do function as they should...

        Thanks,

No it's not the same noise as the indicators.

            Thanks,

Did you check your speed warning is set to something higher like 130, or disabled? I know the speed warning makes quite a distinct dong rather than relay click in the MKVI, but maybe your donger is broken haha, sounds rude.

                Hi Tonymy01.

As far as I'm concerned I don't have a speed warning... It is an early MKIV 2000 model to be precise so it doesn't have any fancy display like the later models did...

                Thanks,

Ticking could caused by many things. Is the noise always there as you described?? If not possibly tyre has picked up something? Possibly could be the purge valve activating but this can also heard at idle. It's located in front of the water reservoir on top of the charcoal canister. You could also possibly have loose wheel arch trim when at speed cause ticking? Hope some of these ideas help.
