Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. Are you looking for a standard system or a performance one? Just thinking a bit more information would be useful.

Why not buy the 42DD exhaust new, in the scheme of things, they are great value. Fitting kit included too. The downpipe gasket is over $20 from VW. Greg is in Brisbane if there's any hassles.

Otherwise look at Dubaddiction, Tim has Eurojet systems for the MK4.

You could be hanging on for ages for a secondhand one. Apart from the one you missed I don't recall seeing one.

Custom? Turbo back mild steel would be about 5-600. Stainless would be more - not 100% sure on price.

                    Christ, that's cheap, too cheap?

I had a 3 inch TBE on my A3 with 2 silencers and thought it was bordering on noisy, only having one would make it worse I reckon.

I still think the best option is the 42DD.

Depending on why you want to do the swap.

Power: get the downpipe and mate it to the standard system. This is what I have done to my S3. No extra noise in the cruise, noticeable extra go from a little earlier in the rev range. A bit more noise when you boot it.

Sound: get the system and fit it to the standard downpipe.

With either option though, you won't see much power without a tune. which would be miles better bang for buck.

I ended up just ordering a 42dd 2.5" catback exhaust from carformance as it just worked out so much better bang for buck and mk4 2nd hand exhaust seem to be heaps rare. its worthwhile.

So you're not after a performance gain? Cat back is just noise.. That's cool if you're going for that though.

                          x2

All the power gains are from the DP. Personally I have 2.5 DP, hi flow cat then 2.5 to stock final resonator. I had a different resonator but it was too loud and droned too much.

                          This was worth 9kw atw.

                          MK5 Jetta 2.Slow - Until it dies.

Yeah I saw that one too and thought exacly the same thing, they would here me coming from miles away!! Still though it is super cheap.

I am planing on doing a tune down the track so I'm thinking full system. What do ya wreckon would a downpipe be enough? keeping in mind power and response is my main concern.

I reckon you can get away with just the downpipe. I am on the S3.

Exhausts last for ages in Australia compared to Europe. Only lose a handful of KW.
