When buying a aftermarket grill like this one ( VW GOLF 1999 - 2004 Badgeless Sport Grill Grille by JOM ! 4th Generation GTi MK4 | eBay )

how does one get rid of the semi circle thats on the front bar underneath the VW badge.. ?

Bust out a dremel tool and grind it out. Tin snips may also work.

Some come with a notch for top and bottom.
I think the "Bonrath" badgeless grill had both notch fillers. Have a look around.

maybe some people fill up the gap with filler and get the bar sprayed again?

the one on ECS comes with a plastic clip to go on the bumper and an aluminium filler panel to fill the hole. both come unpainted in bare plastic and bare metal.
