GTI Drivers Door Lock Busted

Went to lock my car this evening and the key turned without any noise what so ever.
Passenger door locks fine, but the drivers door doesnt.
Has this happened with anyone else before?

Twice occurred to my old '92 Corolla following failed break-in attempts.

Had to get another lock from a wrecker and get a locksmith to match it to my key and then swap it.
