  • Urgent Help needed: Re tranny removal

    Hey,

I really urgently need some help on removing the tranny on my 4mo bora. Any right ups or diy would help but it just wont budge. Not sure how you go about disconnecting the rear drive.

Any help would be appreciated as i kinda needs to be done tommorow.

    Cheers
    Luke

The output shaft from the gearbox going to the tailshaft has i think 3? bolts attaching them together. The tail shaft wont simply drop off though as it is splined where it attaches. Thus to get them apart you need to either swing the motor & gearbox away from the tailshaft to create the necessary distance or somehow create the room further back in the drivetrain. I did the former.

Also there's a pesky little allen bolt all the way down the drivers side front driveshaft input. Not sure how to descrive it better but this photo might help.

Its a bitch of a hex since its buried about 200-300mm deep, i ended up welding up my own custom long hex key as everything else i had was either too wide to fit down the hole or just broke when i used it.

Actually i've found this link i used when i did mine, should help

Also, just thought. If your just removing the gearbox, no need to seperate the tailshaft from the transfer case as you leave the transfer case attached to the engine and seperate the gearbox from the transfer case

Ugh! i was on the right track then. Couldn't really see anyway to undo the 3 tail shaft bolts so undid the transfer case. Still one bolt on it as its such a pain to get an Allen key in. Thanks Wh0 you've hopefully saved me been looking for an r32 write up. As for the photo. I've got it out of the diff its more the wheel bearing side. So do i still need to remove that flange? Hopefully going at it with a fresh mind tommorow will help.

        Thanks Tonnes

Might be a bit easier with the intake manifold off.

EDIT: Oh god i feel like an idiot. Didn't realise they are bolts aswell... or they are actually only allen on mine... Dam im tired.
