Key Cloning? Can it be done? or anyone know a good Gold Coast locksmith?

Hi Guys, is there any way I can post a spare key to a locksmith (Bora 2003) and have a locksmith clone it and send me the old one and a new one that works - including transponder? Or do all keys have to be reprogrammed at once at the car's location?

I know there's a stick thread re. Vag tacho and stuff, but I've never got that thing to work on my car properly - I have a cheapo VAGCOM ebay cable and I downloaded some dodgy VAGCOM software that isn't WIN 7 64bit compatible , so I got it working on my wife's old pooter, but it is a pretty weird interface and I am pretty reluctant to mess around with it and stuff up my working keys etc.

I am going on holidays to the Goldcoast for a week in July and thought I might be able to find someone there to make me a new key then. If anyone has had one made for a reasonable price or knows someone who could program me one when i am there, I could get the parts on ebay before I go, so I am ready.

Any suggestions would be appreciated,

I'd get a proper key cut by a locksmith etc. I did this for my A4 wagon. Bought a plain key from ebay and had it cut. Just in case we locked the other in the car..

Is that how it works?
