bloody passenger door..

everyone knows they are a problem, but the first thing people say to so is open the door so you can access etc etc...

my front passenger external door handle does nothing, and the internal door handle makes the door pin go up and down, but doesnt allow the door to unlatch.. makes no noise other than the door indicator pin moving up, which then falls again as soon as you let go of the inner door handle....


any help?

IIRC you should be able to remove the external lock which gains you access to the mechanism for either the door lock or pull.

I.e

Pull on the exterior door handle - with the door handle in this position, pull on the lock cylinder. It should slide out without much trouble. Set the lock cylinder aside.

There is a cable hooked into the side of the exterior door handle. The cable can be positioned at various points along the handle. Note the current position of the cable and release it from the handle.

ah cheers, i figured id have to go internal door handle. so had it half out and was worried id snap it cos it just wouldnt come free.
ill have a go with that method and see what i can find. cheers.

The lock cylinder is held by a bolt only accessable with the door open.

Have you tried turning the key in passenger door a little further than normal? normal turn activates electronics, further does the manual unlock.

Sorry guys, forgot to mention I have factory central locking as its an 02. So I can't take out the barrel, nor use the lock to manually open it.

Sounds to me like the dead lock inside the actual lock mechanism has 'clicked-in'. Trouble. Best advice I can give is to start googling/vortex searching with those 'dead lock' terms involved.. Sorry I can't be more help.

Oh yeah now i remember its the pain in the ass one that keeps falling into the door. Would make sense as well.

Now im really clueless as to what you can actually do. Apart from what you've done which is remove the interior door handle and try that. I think you might have to do as kenbot said

If you remove the cover where the lock barrel would normally be, what do you find? I know some cars with remote locking just have a cover and there is actually a lock under the cover - worth a look I guess

this works for me (I currently have 2 dead locks at the moment and its driving me insane):

sit in the drivers seat and hold the central locking button on open and keep it pushed down, then reach across and open the door using the door handle at the same time, the button should pop up and stay up and you can open the door

let us know if it works

700$ to get this fixed, as the window clips were shagged too, so that was replaced.. what a bitch.

Holy ****! That's a massive hit to the wallet! How did they actually fix it??

i asked them after, they had the car running for more volts, and just keept hitting the door unlock button the d/s while another person yanked and prodded on the p/s.

the lock was $350, and the window kit was $150 i think, plus labour.
