  • Bonnet Bonnet Bonnet!

    Hey guys!

I'm about to pick up my 1999 Jazz Blue golf in a few days from a private seller and it has quite a few noticeable dents on the front. I'd say it's light hail damage but only to the bonnet and the roof is completely fine!

Been looking around a few wreckers but it's very hard to find Jazz Blue!
If you know any available i would love some help!

    So what are my options?

Get the dents out of the bonnet?
Or go to the wreckers pick up another bonnet and repaint it?

And how much will this all cost?

If i do get one repainted the image below is quite good looking

That looks particularly good coz it's a Boser hood.

I think it'll be hard to find a jazz blue hood, and even if you do the paint might have faded at a different rate so they might not even match. Go to a panel beaters and get quotes on how much it'd cost to fix vs. repainting another one.

If you don't mind the black on the hood you could be cheap: buy another hood and spray it matte black yourself, or you could even go rat rod style (eww).

Honestly with the crazy hailstorms that happen randomly nowadays I'd personally leave the quasi-speed holes as part of the car's "character".

Paintless dent removal by a pro could be an option.

        Thanks for the advice guys!
I was actually looking at some wreckers around my area and saw a Jazz Blue bonnet! BUT IT WAS A POLO!!!! So close but yet so far!

I won't be able to get my hands on the car at least for another week because i'm getting a RWC and having it serviced, but after that i'm going straight to a panel beater to have it looked at!

Have any suggestion on some good places that won't rip a red p plater off!

          Where are you from? Vic?

(EDIT: I thought you were asking about a RWC place)
For RWC my logic is (and it may be totally wrong) if it's a Euro car, take it to a Jap import car mechanic because they're used to seeing heavily modded imports with a tonne of things wrong- and if they see a clean VW in comparison it's heaps better and they won't know the ins and outs as much..

I took my old Audi to a Jap car place in Newport (Vic) and the only thing the guy looked for was the VIN number and didn't even inspect anything as it looked clean. The rules have changed since then though and it's a whole lot tighter with photos having to be taken, etc.

Just got a quote from a panel beater to fix my damaged bonnet. He said $220 and i'll have it in 2 days!
I'm pretty happy with that considering i was thinking it was going to be $250!

            Thanks for all the help!!
