  • MK4 gauges and trip computer

i have an early MK4 gti without the trip computer etc etc in the dash

was wondering if it would be possible to do a dash conversion so that i could get the newer display module working? or would this involve the whole ECU being changed ie. dont bother lol?

also, was looking at the brushed aluminium rings you can get for the tacho and speedo, but cant work out how to get the actual gauge cluster and perspex panel out to install them? any previous threads on this?

    cheers dan

I just bought some off ebay, which turned up on Monday.
They do look like a fair bit of effort, but will look nice with the brushed aluminium interior as spa said...

so no one has any idea about the trip computer then?

had a look today at the dash setup, and it looks like a difficult task to remove the cluster as the dash keeps it in. doesnt look like it could be pulled out in a dowwards direction either due to the steering colum

love the build quality of these cars, but hate any mods as they seem to turn into a marathon

        any help appreciated

oops sorry didint notice the link in the thread, thanks for that

however this leads me to another question... vag-com

sorry for my ignorance (ive only just upgraded from a 87 corolla) but i take it that vag-com is some sort of car ecu/software calibration software?

in the thread it mentiones that you need a special cable and a copy of this to do this mod, and im thinking that this is something that only a service centre would have. how do people at home do this sort of thing?

or would i have to take it to a workshop? seems a bit silly for something which is quite straight forward

well havent looked into it too far, but if i do find out ill let you know

have noticed tho that solitaire here in adelaide is quite unhelpful with techy questions like that, not sure if its because they dont know/cant be bothered or if in fact my questions have been impossible or not worthwhile to do

                hey dan,

check out this thread re: the trip computer...

                http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3499916

                might help a bit...
an adelaide boy hey? same here

probably worth doing a search on vortex, saw a couple of threads with people trying to do the same thing, you might be able to find something if you can filter out the rubbish threads...

                and re: vag-com

                enjoy.
