K&N high performance air intake on R32??

If you mean a pod - only if you have it where it can get good quantities of cold air. Be aware that any unenclosed filter (pod included) is illegal in most states (not sure on Qld, but check).
Benefits - largely noise. You might get a bit better intake flow, but unless you're also doing exhaust work, you're just moving the bottleneck in that case.
Be aware that if a filter of one particular kind allows higher flow, it's probably not filtering as well as the original alternative. Changing filters is a compromise.Nothing to see here...

I am currently trying the VW Racing high flow panel filter in my Stg1 Tiggy. Have had it in a week & initially didn't notice a difference apart from a slight increase in intake noise (which i kinda like!). I now feel as though after a few hours driving time, adjustments (learning?) have been made & torque feels to be up a little. Got better than usual fuel consumption as well on a day trip down the coast with a massive paddle-board on the roof racks (7.3l/100)!Current: MY18 TRANSPORTER CrewVan, Indium Grey
Previous: MY10 Tiguan 2.0TSI, Silver Leaf, APR StgII tune + many mod's

In which case, it's generally regarded as a bad idea as the oil will foul your MAF and they're not that cheap to replace.
This will be less of an issue if you're looking at the kits that replace the stock air box that have the filter at the end of the intake that sits close to the front of the engine bay. But still probably not worth doing.
Then there's the kits that have the air filter that sits behind lower bottom grill of your bumper.
For the few hundred dollars that these kits will typically cost. I don't think it's worth it.
But if you're still keen, I would research the dry type of filter systems. Like the one from EVOMS:

i have a neuspeed CAI on my r32. The car is more responsive, takes about 1l/100km less and the noise is great. The air filter is a K&N POD filter that sits in the bumper behind the passinger side bumper grille so its getting proper cold air. I did have a POD in place of the airbox but that killed the MAF.
So if you want one of these go for a proper one like mine or dont do it at all. THe ones that sit in the airbox dont really make much difference since its not getting proper cold air
