GTi or 2.0L option

I have had both and all I can say is that the GTI is 1000000 X better than the 2.0L… there is a lot more in the gti that the 2.0L has (performance and styling.)

The 2.0L doesn’t come with climate control or the red digital display on the dash.

The 2.0 is quite slow (1.6 civic beat me)

Gti worked….very impressive.

i upgraded from the 2.0L to the GTi - theres my proof.

Btw - I'm under 25 with a colourfull driving history I my insurance was only 1250 in St Kilda of all places... Just cars - just is!

At the beginning I'd like to keep it stock then maybe in the future may reconsider. Would like to see how it goes stock first before I go too crazy...

I'm checking the cars out on Sunday, yeah I'll be very interested if the GTi owner has kept up its service intervals. That's probably the only thing really stopping me at the moment from getting it.

Hmm just checking NRMA quote online a 26 year old driver with a flawless history gets charged $2128.41 per annum. Wow, I expected up to $1500...

onevan - My brother has a GTI and was paying 1300 when he was 24 with NRMA in a dodgy sydney suburb while it was insured for $32k! (Think its insured for ~30k now, hes 26 and he's paying $1000!)

Give them a call - That quote seems off.

Wow… area has a big impact on insurance price…
In SA and paying a bit over 900 for my gti…
And if I were older than 25, it would go down to somewhere between 700 and 800… that's despite an at fault claim in the last year

ye that quote is def. off. As a 22 yr old 04 GTI and have wheels insured for $2500. im paying $1700. Without the wheels id be on about $1300-1400.

Try AAMI- I upped the excess to $1000 and the insurance is <$700 p/a 28 y/old rating 1 in Hawthorn Melb (with the modifications listed).. AAMI clearly rate the GTi as a lower risk turbo

I have a 2.0l

Hello, just signed up now and I will be online every now and then.

I have a 2.0l sport 2004. Bought it at the end of August.
Paid $20,000 including S/Duty, 35,000 klms. Bought it from a chick in Melbourne who hardly drove it with full service history.
It felt a bit sluggish until I bought a K & N filter. I put in the standard box
and also added an a additional pipe that sucks cold air from the bumber.
Goes much harder and is more responsive. I will add a 2.0 inch exhaust and
extractors soon.
I thought about a Gti, but required $5000.00 extra. Most of the Gti's I looked at were priced at about $25,000 most had b/w 50-70kms.
Also, the sport has the same options and interior as the Gti. You can find them with and without sunroofs. Only problem is they have standard springs and shocks. Mine will be lowered very soon with H&R sport springs.
Insurance for me 30yr old rating 1 $890.00 through suncorp.
If you are considering insurance don't use budget direct, they use secondhand parts.

You can always add a turbo later if you want, won't cost more than $5000.00.

Ive been to the restaurant you manage and I saw your Gti parked outside in pole position.
The rims are sick and the car is spotless, and it looks fully sick.
I thought about asking at the restaurant who owns that mad Gti outside, but
now I know.
Don't become slack and leave it dirty.


Ps: Everyone reading this should go and try the Lebanese food, I ate so much I felt it the next day. Fantastic food and good service.

Welcome aboard Haz If your from MElbourne, post up your location. We have an up coming cruise, it'd be good to see you there.

The sport came well equiped - yes it had the nice interior like the gti, yes you could get the sunroof like the gti. But one problem still remains, it's not a gti. The upgraded engine and brakes and suspension and standard inclusions will loeve the sport behind in future re-sale value. But again - I'm biased. Go with what your heart says....

Hi Neil

You have a point, i was very close to buying a gti, but can you imagine the missus driving it-who rarely drives manual.
Riding the clutch, grinding 1st to 2nd, then at 3000rpm a gush of psi boost-boooooooooooooom there goes the turbo.
On a serious note ill be driving around kids in it so I have to be responsible. If the missus buys a standard golf then there will be some serious mods made to mine.
