  • Diesel in a 4mo?

    Hi all,

Is there a locally delivered oiler that will bolt into a 4Mo with minimal fuss?

This is purely curiosity at this point, though with the k's getting higher in my car, you never know ...

I know the beetle 1.9 will bolt easily into the FWD Mk4's but not sure about the 4mo's.

      Hmm, I'm not sure.

I was worried about the 6speed bolting up to any of the diesels. And, as the only mk4 to come with the diesel locally (AFAIK), the Beetle was FWD.

isn't the 1.9 TDI a relatively crap oiler, and the BKD-series 2.0L TDI out of the MK5 is a much better unit?

Oh, I wasn't specifying what engine I'd prefer, I was just saying thats the only one I could think of that would be a relatively straight forward fit.

I'd prefer the BKD for sure!

Rebuild the 2.8L Bore it, stroke it, and add cams to it if you can afford it. But please stay away from those terrible diesel's

Why, are you afraid of torque?

                  I'd LOVE a 4mo diesel transplant project......go for it!!

You should try overseas and try import a diesel they were available in a 4 motion version in either golf or bora I'm not 100% but im sure I've read it somewhere. Im going to double check.

Don't get me wrong, they can tear your balls off with the amount of torque they have. I just can't stand the sound they make. Especially compared to one of the best sounding engine's; the VR6

Guess you haven't heard a V6 TDI with a decent euro exhaust, not petrol good, but bloody decent for a tractor. Amazingly there is a lot you can do for a diesel exhaust wise, especially the modern ones. Heard a GTD yet? Not half bad stock!

There was a MkIV 2.0TDI 4Motion Golf - I saw one personally while on holidays in NZ.

Putting a MkIV 2.0TDI in a Bora will be easier than transplanting the 4Motion bits into a TDI as you won't need to modify the floor pan or anything like that.

I'm not sure about the transmission in the MkIV, but in the MkV there's a 2.0TDI with a 6-speed.

Yep you can get em overseas but you need to check if our gear box bell hosing will match.
