goodbye driveshaft

the other night when i was driving with a fellow dubber, if gone to take off hard and heard a large bang and then clunking sounds which i new straight away was something to do with the driveshaft/ CV .

anyways a mate came out with a trailer and got my car and took it home for me and today i climb under to find it actually snapped all the bolts that hold one end of the driveshaft to the gear box :S meaning the left over of the thread is stuck in the gear box i dont know much about these sorta things but would i have done the CV joint as well ? i wanna work out as much as i can before going and giving it too a mechanic and being ripped. it would be even better if i could just get parts and do it myself..

also i cant see how it would but would the fact my driveshaft and sway bar like to hit each everyday have anything to do with the lead up to this happening??

Holy shiiiit. I dread the day I'll destroy my CVs. Let's hope I'll be able to get my parts in before that happens.

That sux mate. At bunnings they have this tool that will extract snapped bolts. You drill a hole in the centre of the snapped bolt screw this part in and then you can undo the broken bit out. Good luck with your car dude.

cheers will go have a look today if i can get the broken bits out i should be able buy a new driver side driveshaft/cv and chuck her in and hopefully have no dramas.


haha ray i wish i could plan ahead like that unfortunately for me i have no car till i can fix this owell things break cant help that i was only saying the other day how my car hasnt had a problem for the last 9 months or so. thats come back to bite me lol

Dam that's no good dude, hope it's not to much trouble getting the old one out, when i did my coilovers I had a cv refurbished so I'm not to sure how long it will last, let us know how you go sourcing a new cv. hope you get her back on the road soon.

Apparently there is someone that can rebuild ur cv joints and send them back to you.. Im getting both my front cv joints replaced for $800 including labour

I used to work for a company here in Brisbane called "Driveline Services". They did CVs, Drive shafts, tail shafts etc

fingers crossed but i got it looked at quickly and the thoughts are that if just snapped the bolts its hard to tell without getting the car on a hoist and taking the driveshaft out but i think the cv is fine. im gunna book it in to have someone use easy outs to get the snapped bolts out of the gear box since this is going to be cheaper then actually buying a set myself then if all goes to plan ill get 6 new bolts and away i go tho i will get the cv checked out to be safe...

I had the issue with mine where the bolts that go through the CV had all worked loose and had almost fallen out. I put it down the to fact that my discs were a bit warped and until I replaced them it did shudder a bit...might have rattled them loose. I was very lucky they didn't shear off for me as well.

yeah i think mine would of had to come loose for this to happen possibly from swaybar and drive shaft knocking all the time im not sure but it was definitely driving fine with no vibrations before i was driving silly and suddenly had them snap on me ..
