  • Window Regulator Clips

    Hey guys,

Just had my clips on drivers window pop. Anybody know anyone on the Central Coast who can repair these? I don't have time at the moment and can't risk the window going into the door at this stage.

The plastic clips break. I did mine DS front a while ago and replaced with the metal ones from ECS. (Had to buy the kit, just for the clip)
You can also get plastic ones on fleebay for about $15.
Seriously, I'd be doing it myself but then again, I don't have a lots of disposable money.

You don't need to remove the door lock. You can punch out 2 plastic pins to leave the lock module in place.
There is a really good DIY on vwvortex VWVortex.com - DIY - Replacing the front door window regulator clips and/or door lock module
If the window has fallen you will need the kit with the cable/take-up reel assembly.
To fix a window before it breaks you just need the clips.
I'd say bite the bullet and get the kit locally to get you going again, then get some clips from ECS or the like and tackle the other window before its too late.
When I did mine the kit from VW was around $120.

My window was stuck down too but in ended up only being a broken white plastic clip.
Took me longer then I had expected but could probably do it in an hour if I had to do it again.

Once you get the trim off, there is a metal skin that covers everything! Need 10mm socket if I remember correctly.
Take the skin off and assess the problem. If you manually lift the window and have someone hold it whilst you press the button/switch to send the window up. If the mechanisim goes up, you probably only need the clip, which will no doubt be in the bottom of you door in peices.

Since I didn't have to remove the actual regulator, it was much easier.

            Good luck!

The pulleys have a small indent on the edge, try to get the cable over the indent. Then use a flat screwdriver to turn the pulley. The pulley has small slots in the inner part. Basically as the pulley turns it pulls the cable over itself and it slots into the runner.

Oh make sure you till have the metal spring bracket still in place. This compresses the springs to give you a bit of slack.

                    Thats good news!
Did you need new cables or just the clips?

PS Sorry for not replying sooner, still don't have home email, so don't get the notifications.

All good bud. I had one clip that had snapped where the wire attached randomly. What then happened was the wire spun free causing the reel/spool to stuff up and got all tangled and just got messed up. So ultiimately, cause of failure was the clips :| Tight fit re-installing tho!

If you decide to fix before the plastic clips fail you can just replace the clips.
