Hmmm...not sure how you can be charged for dangerous driving if you're driving under the posted speed limit? A recommended speed is just that, recommended. I imagine this is taken into account with the driving behavior not just the speed.

GOOD NEWS! My mechanic called me this morning to let me know that they had discovered that the third-party that repairs the sumps had reassembled it incorrectly and they had fixed my car and I could pick it up.

    Damn good news

I'm still going to checkout the speedhump/raised pedestrian crossing as it can only be 10cm high and be a gradient no steeper than 1:15...and I'm damn sure it's not.

Will keep you posted (for those of you that are interested!)

    Troy.

      Wow, great turn around
what did the sump end up costing you to get repair?

Ha, sounds like a very interesting result.

Good luck with your surveying. I'd be more worried about potholes in the inner West than speed bumps.

It cost me $240 for the sump to be repaired - about $100 labour, $90 welding (3rd party) and the remainder was oil.

Don't mention the potholes...the one I drove over the other day felt like a metal bar had slammed through the wheel and halfway into the car. Pretty sure that ain't good for my alignment

I'd still be tempted to say new mechanic time. How did they manage to diagnose a shot bearing when the sump simply wasnt put on right... not exactly hard. Also there's nothing to "re-assemble" on a sump other than bolting it to the motor... which your mechanic, not the welder should've done :/

Apparently the reccomended speed still holds some legal backing in Queensland even if it is under the posted speed limit.
I have been advised of this by both the police and the driver training instructor at work.

Glad your problem has been sorted out though

Are their windage trays in a V5 sump? If so, maybe the welder had to remove the windage trays to do the weld. He probably bolted them in upside down & the crank was hitting the sheet metal & making a knocking noise.

The windage trays are bolted in, I think they use the same 6mm allen key bolts that bolt the oil pump on, dont quote me I could be wrong.
They cant be fitted upside down as they are curved to the shape of the sump that has galleries cast in it. I'll take a photo of a sump if you like as I keep them in stock here.

Hmmm...now I'm starting to doubt my mechanic's ability. They've always seemed so good in the past...
