  • Bora 4motion models.

Been looking around everywhere and i cant seem to find the exact differences between the 4motion, 4motion sport and the oettinger. My understanding is that there all the same mechanically. Is this correct? Is there a list of the cosmetic changes between the models? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

mechanicly they are all identical the only diffrances were cosmetic , things like spoilers grills, wheels and pedals

Volkswagen Announces Bora V6 4Motion Sport - AutoWeb News

Later Sport models from about 2003 which lost the hoop style headrests didnt have the sport logo on the seats, I believe that was also the time the switch to the BDE engine was made

              what is bde engine ?

i've heard the seats in the 2003+ models are firmer, more like the GTI, than the 01 models.... can't confirm this as i've never sat in a 03 model

i thought the seats changed at 2001.5?
but generally as above the differents are valances and grilles, pedals and so on. not much really..

I cant confirm woth the seats as ive never been in a 2001 or yeah but in mine the seats are preety firm also with the bde i think the diffrance to other vr6 24v's is the exhaust cam timing lobe , as when i was working on mine i noticed that most vr6 24v rebuild guides had diffrent ones ? but yeah cant realy bee to shore as this is my first vr6 so im just going of my own one :\

                  2003 4motion .. Not sport ( says highline )

One thing that changed, and I don't know when (possibly MY2002) is the clutch.
I had a 2001 that had a very heavy hydraulic clutch, just like in the Golf VR6. My brother has one (also 2001) that has the same heavy clutch. I test drove another one I was looking at that was supposed to be a 2001 model as well, but it had a very light clutch - maybe they went from hydraulic to cable-actuated?

As far as I know, the running gear is the same across all of the V6's (V6, Sport and Oettinger) - they all have the same power, and I believe it's just cosmetic details that differ.

Im not sure with the seats. Theres two sports on carsales both claiming to be 03 models yet one has seats with the sport embroidery and one doesnt. Maybe the ones sold late in the year didnt? Not sure whats going on there. Doesnt really bother me to be honest. Was just wondering whether they tweaked the suspension setup or anything for the sports model which it seems they didnt. Thanks for all replies.

personally, save your money and just get a 4mo; for the 2-3 grand difference you'd be able to upgrade the grill and wheels easy aftermarket

One word of advice people put the date the cars were first registered not built. Go into the boot lift up the carpet and check the build date and compliance tag. Also the change was early 2003 to the models sold in Aus. The other could have possibly been sitting in the showroom

The one with the embroidery on the seats will be the older model, they had the hoop style headrests as well.

The seats in mine are same as leather ones in some? GTI's which is the non hoop non embroidered (the height adjustment in mine broke and I was looking at a new one and the guy at the wrecker told me same as leather GTI)

no but he said it was simple fix but I'm not so sure. when it broke this spring went flying out across the floor and the bit of plastic it was attached to - your spring may have just come detached though and it may be a simple fix has it always been broken?
