Bora 4mo Clutches

Hi all

Just doing a bit of research for now. Don't need a new one yet but I have a few questions

Firstly regarding Clutch Masters and Spec racing clutches and flywheels.

Been looking at this:
Clutch Masters- Your High Performance Specialists

Am a tad wherry of purchasing off websites that don't state Bora. Even though this states Jetta MkIV 2.8L 24v 6 speed, would this kit fit? Do I have to specify another car when purchasing parts?

Same deal with spec racing, their Bora section does not have the 2.8L, only the Jetta

Also, the paint on my front bar is cracking from rocks or stones or something : /

The US didn't get a Bora, it was called the Jetta over there.

Probably more importantly, they didn't get a 2.8L V6 4Motion. They got both Golf and Jetta with a 2.8L V6 (the 24v one is the one you're interested in), but it was only FWD, and there are some differences in some areas when compared to the 4Mo (the gearbox is slightly different for instance). There's also some subtle differences in the cars between LHD and RHD markets.

You need to be really careful to make sure you get the right bits.

I'll probably go through Exeedy Aus for a clutch kit, I've heard some good reviews with them

Any of the single mass Southbend, Spec or Clutchmasters clutch kits will fit just fine but due to them being single mass and lighter flywheel you WILL get a lot more chatter noise, if that doesn't bother you then all good otherwise fit another dual mass kit which ECS also stock.
No difference in the clutch between AWD and FWD.

By the way buy a good quality clutch like one of the ones I mentioned as its an absolute truck load of work to take the box out! You only want to be doing this one, trust me!
I've just had to re do a mates once because of the rubbish localy made NZ clutch plate let go after only 10,000km.

Ouch, that sucks a lot actually

I've been asking a few mates and my mechanic and such and names that come up with good reputation, is Clutch Masters, Excedy, and Xtreme.

I've been looking into these three and they all seem to be pretty good. I don't need a clutch now, but I'm pretty sure I'll be going for either Excedy or Xtreme

Remember you need a different clutch if you use dual mass or solid flywheel

The OEM dual mass flywheel use a rigid disc , when you change to a solid flywheel you need to us a sprung disc ,

With clutchmasters that is why there is either -R or -S after the part# .

You can also get a 20lb single mass flywheel for the bora 4mo now if you want to reduce chatter:

amd with clutches the 6 puck design wear much faster than the full face organic ones, still rated to high power

Just FYI for my 4motion i used a Spec clutch and Flywheel.

Part Numbers:

SV873F > Clutch
SV23S-2 > Flywheel

The clutch is great, i find it nice and easy to drive and very smooth, very little shudder, essentially none really. But launch it from 5krpm and it just grabs and goes (not that i do that often, just at a hillclimb so far). That said others that have driven my car find it bitey and a bit tricky to use, having had triple plate clutches on past cars i guess im just used to aggressive clutches!
