Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Turbo Beetle Issues - Misfiring?

Hi, my beetle misses horribly all the time and the only time I can get it to run properly is when I disconnect the afm, I'm happy to just leave it unplugged permanently but the problem is that with the afm unplugged the air con won't turn on and the traction control won't turn on.

Do you mean the maf? If so then your maf is gone and needs to be replaced, if not then excuse me while I whistle in the corner.

      Indeed. It's a $350ish part/job. Just get it done.

if it's the maf then u could try giving it a clean first: How-to: Mass Air Flow cleaning for the MKIV Volkswagen - ONEIGHTURBO

u can use electronics cleaner spray from jaycar (white and grene can i think), or there are various maf cleaner sprays at super cheap.

had the same problem with another car and fixed it that way.

I'd try ebay UK for that stuff or googling the part number. A part costing that much is often <$100 if you get it direct from O/S.
