Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • V5 Bora 2.3

Hello, I Am picking up a v5 2.3l bora. I'm wondering what parts I can order off ecs as they don't specially mention the v5
I'm after the basics oil filters, cabin filter, air filter, spark plugs, ignition leads.

Does anyone know which parts I can order?

    Cheers

    Gongrats on the purchase mate...

    There are 2 VR5 engine's in Mk4 Bora's...
    150HP and 170HP.
I believe that the changeover is about 2002...

The 150HP is effictively a Mk3 VR6 with 1 cylinder missing. (Easily identifiable by the Red Spark Plug Leads running accross the top)
The 170HP is effictively a 'late' (post 2002 i believe) Mk4 VR6 with 1 cylinder missing... (Easily identifiable by the ignition coils directly on the spark plugs)

Effectively, you can order the correct parts based on that...
Alot of parts (Cabin / air / oil / filters and spark plugs) are the same accross the board...

Personally I've found AVS parts (VW Bora (1998-2004) Parts)to be better in terms of delivery costs... Although, I've yet to place my order...

Thanks for the info mate, the Spark plug leads do not run across the engine cover if that's what you mean?

And yes, I did mean accross the engine cover (See my Avatar).

Sounds like you have a late model then...
        Lucky you.
That's +20hp, and it's got varriable valve timing, so better fuel economy too...
Also, there are no spark plug leads to buy, as the coils sit directly on the spark plugs... lol.

Yeah no worries man, one ignition coil died on me today. ECS tuning have some ignition coils for the mk4 24v vr6 same thing? I want to buy 4 new ones as one is getting replaced tomorrow.
