  • Whistling noise at speed

Hi guys, this might be a really dumb question.... but does/has anyone else get a weird whistling noise whilst driving at higher speeds ( like above 70km/h)?

It sounds as though air is getting in the window rubbers, but I can't feel anything?!

    It's driving me nuts!!

I have a whining sound at about that speed. Goes away when you lift off the throttle. I fixed it by turning up the bass on the subwoofer.

            yeh man its a leak...

i have a aftermarket fmic i kept one of the standard pipes of the intercooler and now it shat it self and blew a hole in it. so there is my whilstle....
its an ugly sounding whistle too!!

also my boost doesn't hold as much as it should because of this leak... the whistling sound only happends when i hit 10psi+

Lots of oil at the Intercooler pipes = oil seeping from turbo

If it's hitting your manifold after the intercooler, turbo is definately close to being shagged.

My Passat has that sound too.

Coz its an old car I was thinkin it was just the wind or something like that.

Yeah, I thought it was the wind or something...
Lemme just check... the SMIC is on the passenger side yeah?
The sound definately comes from the drivers side, and sounds like it is near the window... It really sounds as though the window is open a poofteenth, except it isn't and I can't feel any airflow around the seal...

Having said that... I am definately going to check for any IC pipe leaks on the weekend...

sierra i have that exact same sound coming from the exact same place. It sounds like air is getting in through some seal on the drivers side door/window

Mine comes through from the drivers side. Sound still happens when window is up, no air comming from seals.
