Hi All,
Ok so I changed my oil about a month ago, topped up nicely almost to the upper limit on the dipstick. I'm driving to Palm Cove (about 4.5 hours from where I live) on the weekend so I just thought I'd double check my oil is ok. Went to pull out the dipstick (the ring pull is already gone, broken from the heat I suspect) and the top half of the dipstick broke off from the main plug. I can pull the dipstick itself out, but it just runs through the middle of the orange plastic plug which is stuck inside the tube.
So now I have the remains of the orange plug stuck about half a CM inside the tube where the dipstick sits. I can push the dipstick back in and it seals up fine (because there is a flange stopping the plug going in any further) but obviously I can't read the oil level! I am 99.9% sure my oil level is fine, though it would be nice to check.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get it out? I was thinking I could put a tiny drop of superglue on the top of the broken plug, push them back together for a min or so then try and pull the whole thing out together. Maybe glue it together just for the weekend then get a replacement one. Or maybe do the same thing but with bluetac? Though I doubt the bluetac would be strong enough. At the same time I don't like the idea of superglue anywhere near my engine oil.
There is a warning light that comes on in the event of low oil isn't there? Might just take a litre of oil on the trip with me for that 0.1% chance.
Anyone have any ideas?
