  • I changed the diff fluids in my 4 mo today and took pictures.

    So here they are.

    New Haldex filter



    New drain plug.




    Genuine fluids from VW









    Installation tools form Go-Lo!

    I modified a brand new sauce squeeze bottle with some clear tubing so I could squeeze the haldex fluid in via the inspection hole.

    The measuring cup was to measure out 250ml of haldex fluid.



    Up in the air and reasonably level. You need a bit of space to work under the back end.



    Diff oil drain plug



    Diff oil filler up high in the front side of the case.

    Not too much debris in the diff oil. about average I'd say.



    Used a pump to replace the diff oil. 1 litre came out and 1 litre went back in.



    Wrote the service date and odo reading on the filter for good measure. (Clearly I forgot which day it is!)

        Mmm Haldex Muffins. This makes my brain tired looking at the process.. but doesn't look too difficult when you have the right tools.

          Don't believe it - getting the filter off is a *bastard* of a job - the access is horrid - even with the right tool, the angles you have to work on and the room you've got to actually work even once you have the tool on the filter are both terrible.

              nice work man , il probaby have to do the same to my car soon but i realy dont wanna mess around with any gearbox used in a vw ... probz just pay for it or maybe grow some ballz and do it hehe never know XD

                Yeah, it's a bugger all right. The height I've got the car at in the pictures is the absolute bare minimum. If the front wasn't lifted as well you'd find it near impossible.

                At this height I had just enough room to swing the haldex spanner.

                Access is so restricted that the most you can get is about 1/12 of a turn at a time. You have to keep taking the spanner off the filter and moving it one tooth around until it gets it lose enough to undo by hand.

                I didn't get any photos of the filter location because it's just not visible, it's hidden behind a lot of stuff.

                Haldex controller sits just above the filter so I'm suffed how people change those out at home.

                The haldex pump is pretty accessible though.

                    that used diff oil looks pretty bad; had mine serviced last week and about a hundred mils of black goo came out. Derren/darren said he'd never seen anything like it.
