  • Passenger side parking lights contstantly blow the fuse

    Hi all Golf Gurus.

I have a difficult problem with my 99 Mk4 golf where the passenger side parking lights keep blowing the 5 amp fuse. The drivers side is fine.

Where do I look to fix this??

Must be a wire going to earth somewhere? But where would it be likley?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Scott

I have seen this issue on the VW Vortex site but no answer there either.

Must be a very difficult thing to fix or even source the problem.

Where do the wires run from the parking lights front and back? Through the body or just under the carpet? Or worse still through the roof above the headliner?

From where I have looked they run towards the front just under the rear parcel shelf.

    Then I lost them.

    Thanks.

Best to start at the light itself. Try removing the connector, turn on the light on see if it blows. If not blowing then problem is in the headlight housing.

Check for ground on each pin, you should only have it on the one pin. Pos pin should not have continuity to ground.

Routing of the harness will probably go back under the battery then into the big plastic conduit on the firewall under the AC pollen filter, then into the rain tray over to drivers side.

        Thanks for that.

If my wife ever stops driving it for long enough I will have a good look.

I might need to remove the battery to do so.

Problem is I bought the car second hand and the PO didnt have the security code for the stereo.

I assume you can get this from the dealer??

Cheers for the help so far.

Thanks for all your assistance Mr Cruisin.

It seems that my rear parker LHS had blown and fused itself together creating a dead short which kept blowing the fuse.

Replaced both the globe and the fuse and all is working again.

          Cheers,

          Scott
