I reckon that if you have no whine and you have the bunny-hopping problem that it's haldex unit and not diff.
If the diff (which is a purely mechanical part, no electronics or hydraulics at all) was messed up enough to bunny-hop like that wouldn't it be accompanied by some whine or pretty nasty crunching noises?

Governor which mechanic are you using?
Can I highly recommend you take your car to Canberra VW Centre in Belconnen? The guys there are very knowledgeable and have been nothing but a pleasure to deal.
I suspect they will be able to diagnose your fault quickly for you, and provide a quote to fix the problem.
Hope this helps
Alex

You can keep running your car like this and it won't get any worse, just annoying and it'll chew your tyres a bit more. It may also put more stress on other parts but you just have to turn wider and quicker.Someone is having a lend of you for a used one at that price.

At least now I know it's way more affordable to fix if the dealer does screw me over! But I've got Consumer Affairs on my side and they deal with the dealer on behalf of the dealee.

just picked up the car this arvo. I didn't follow everything he said, but sounded like the ? clutch-pack was sticking to something on the diff. So they tried 'un-sticking' it. Gonna drive it for a bit then let them know how it works out. Still did a bit of a bunny hop on the way out of their driveway, but I tried a reverse turn and it seemed OK.

Most likely your haldex clutch packs are fried, most times its the Haldex controller that fails which engages and dis engages the clutch packs all the time in turn burning them up and thats why the car binds on turns.
I haven't taken one apart yet but surely there must be clutch sets avaliable in Europe or pommyland?
