  • FMIC Install

hey guys i've got a FMIC sitting at home and was just wondering if you guys know anyone in Melbourne who knows what their dealing with and how to do it with out costing an arm or a leg of mine.
and also for those who have got them installed, what do you think... is it worth it?

depending what fmic you have you can take backward steps by installing it, keep the piping small otherwise you will just lag.

VW GOLF MK4 1.8T GTI MKIV FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER KIT | eBay

this is similar to my one the piping is custom. just finding someone to fit it for a reasonable price is is the problem.

That looks like the same kit I got, just keep in mind you will have to do alot of trimming to the bar. The kits were designed for US cars which have bigger bumpers than ours

If it is the the same kit that is in your avatar then is looks nice, and seems to have a fairly minimal amount of pipe work,
guessing where return to intake side pipe work comes up to join the throttle body, like GolfMan said, have a go yourself.

Get some cool air temps up in that bitch!

Well the pipe work I have at the moment is all custom, the piping that came with the kit didn't fit all that great, it ran into the horn and came real close to the rad fans. I guess if you are handy with an aluminum welder you could tweak the pipe work, it wouldn't take much to get it fitting nice. I just ended up getting a set of custom pipes made up from stainless steal, they are mostly the same but a few of the bends are different. I have a write up of it in here with pics somewhere. I'm very happy with the end results stainless looks much nicer than the aluminum. This is not an easy dyi but is do-able

I'm pretty sure Mighty Car Mods have a video on YouTube installing a fmic on a mk4 gti.

In the MK4 DIY section of vwvortex there's a full install of the ebay kit. It helped alot when I fitted one on a previous car. You have to cut into the reo-bar to get it to sit right in the center otherwise it will hang out the bottom. Also you have to trim about 2cm off the inside of the bumper where the intercooler and piping will run through. I did it alone and took about 8 hours to complete.

VWVortex.com - That Ebay FMIC kit you wanna buy: REVIEWED!

It is worth it IMO as the stock SMIC heat soaked after 2 passes where as the ebay FMIC kit I had in could do 4 passes without any.

                      Cheers
