A flash is the cheapest way to go. Much less than a grand for 50hp or so. Turbo swap would yield more but costs rise exponentially. Replacing the downpipe and exhaust can be worth while. It all depends on your budget and how much you can do yourself.

no way you're getting 200+ hp at the wheels with just a tune and exhaust. need a k04 at least to get into these sort of numbers. $$$
search vwvortex and ukmkiv's to see how those guys are getting those sort of numbers.

When it was dyno'd it got about 150hp at the wheels. if you can do supporting mods first then the tune I think it would benefit more where as mine was already tuned. Another good mod is the turbo inlet pipe.

If you want 200hp it's easy, just sell your Golf and buy a Bora V6 4motion

                      probably 200kw for twenty seconds

k0deaths (k03) are a good thing to replace anyway, especially depending on you cars odometer,
they tend to give up the ghost round 120k and even faster when you chip it!

If you did a k04, intake, dump back zorst, higher output fuel pump, and tune you'll be able to see 200whp easy,
you may need to also need injectors, I'm not sure what the stock 110kW 1.8T injector max duty is.

I'd have a look around to see what kinds of kits are available! you'd probably find most come with FMICs too!
I'm no guru on the 1.8T I know its a really great engine and I know there are buckets of things you can do with it.

But what i mean to say is if you have high kms id look into upgrading turbos anyway.

                      Cheers, Pedro

Edit, Oh I know you were talking crank hp not whp but just to give you an idea.
If audi-tone got 150whp thats about 175-180 at the crank
