Mine is nice and quiet (unfortunetly).
If your getting one, avoid the autos as they are known to fail and are expensive to replace.
If it has over 100k's, make sure the timing belt and water pump have been replaced, or get it it for a steal of a price because they need it done.
Jazz blue goes faster.

If the car has been well maintained then it's probably just the usual coil packs or window regulators that are likely to give any grief. Unfortunately, as far as I know, these problems won't show any symptoms until the moment they fail.
