Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Bora Dash Lights always on when key is in and on acc/on

It never used to do this...

Basically, no matter the headlight switch position, all the dash lights are on whenever the key is not in the 'off' position...
Also, the dash dimmer has no effect, they are all at full brightness.

Any ideas on where to start?

Update: With the ignition Off, the dash lights and dimmer work correctly (i.e. with the Parkers and adjustable)...

Fixed: Thanks to Imagewerx for jogging my cloudy memory...

I have no idea but in case it helps when I installed my head unit there was one wire in the stereo loom that fully lit up the dash when connected to power.. I didn't know why it would be connected to the stereo loom and found it unusual but it must serve a purpose.. Can anyone enlighten me?

Have you played with any wiring lately?

Have you ever noticed that the radio lights up with the dash lights ? Well that wire in the loom controls this.
The current on this line is variable based on the dash dimmer setting. If you cross it with a powered line it will feed current back up to the other dash lights.

            All fixed...

The 'factory' settings are that the screen lit up whenever the stereo turned on, but the buttons only came on when the parkers did...

Now, the screen and buttons come on with the parkers.

What was causing the issue is that the stereo was powering the dash lights through the screen light power through the blown transistor
