Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • suspicion that haldex isnt working

    hi all,

a lil background info, mk4 r32 85000km, serviced regularly, blue haldex controller installed and a few other small mods.
now done to the business, after meetin up with dainese on the weekend i have come to the conclusion that my haldex is not functioning properly, as i can get a tremendous amount of wheelspin in 1st and 2nd whilst taking off normally and then accelerating hard.
i have read around a few different places and heard things such as the electric precharge pump being the cause but im really at a loss as to what it may be, so if anyone can provide any comments as to why or what is causing this or have had similar experiences and hopefully solutions, you would officially be my new best friend.
also i havnt had it scanned yet for any fault codes, if anyone can help out with tht would be appreciated.

    thanks

    Matt

given your location mate, i'd give Arthur from Exoticars a call in Nth Parra and swing by there.

Hell, why he is fixing your ride you can gawk at the inevitable Ferrari or Lambo in there too. crazy stuff.

R32 Fuse List or PDF version

Fuse 31 TCM (Transmission Control Module)

BTW it could be your brake light switch, E brake button or sometimes the plug to the controller gets corroded. Best bet is to scan for codes first.

nah your brake light switch is working. well it should be. brake lights were working, except the NS light.
and if it fails it should throw a CEL.

                  unsure about ebrake button.

trust me there is a thread on vortex to check for haldex operation

Quite often it will throw a code without throwing any indication on the dash, we had this happen at a rally once years ago up here with the resulting Vagcom report something like "brake light switch intermittent". There are a heap of threads on Vortex as dainese says but get someone to scan the car for you with Vagcom if you don't own it yourself or take it to a dealer and get it done it is the only accurate way of knowing what is causing it.

If you get no codes then some of these threads may help you narrow down the issue.

Check the following threads on Vortex

                    Haldex Problem

                    AWD Haldex Issue

                    My AWD isn't working

                    Haldex Pump Issue

There are hundreds of others just do a search of the Mk IV R32 forum.
