Hey there, I'm in Melbourne too and may need your assistance... Lost my keys so a new one is coming from Volkswagen. Would you be available to come and program the key.... Happy to offer you cash for your time!
Well, I now have the equipment if anyone else in Melb needs a hand. Programming the keys was fairly straight forward, the real pain was getting the software & hardware to play nice!
I'm thinking that I will need to go down this path of replacing the missing spare key. I [will] have a 2007 Skoda Octavia vRS. Would it be dangerous or reasonable to assume that the same parts and steps could be used? Without researching, I am making the assumption that the relevant electronics will be the same as per the Golf.
Does anyone have experience or knowledge to confirm either way? Thanks.
Yes that later car will need more advanced tools. There is a guy on eBay in Sydney who has the AVDI tool to code keys to newer model VAG AG cars. Just look up VW key on ebay.com.au, it's the picture with lots of keys, I think he charges $100 for a new key and includes coding to your car. IIRC he is a VW tech and does this as after-hours work on the side. Good luck
So how does one code in a new transponder if the old one doesn't work and you only have 1 key?
Currently my door locks are stuffed (surprise!) and I can only open the car via putting the key in the bootlid.
How can I get the transponder to work considering my old one basically self destructed? Is a vag-com the only way?

Thanks for the suggestion. It looks to me like the chip (transponder) is different to the Skoda Octavia RS 2007. I could very well be wrong however, so I've sent an email to check.
vw_parts_aus is his eBay username.
Does the transponder chip require power?
If not, would it be possible to dig the chip out of my working key and glue it inside the cowl around the ignition? And then just use any key I get cut?
Almost definitely possible - but that just means your car effectively has no immobiliser. I think that means that the car may do things like no longer self lock, and the lights on the doors may not flash any more when the car is locked. Not sure...

The transponder does not need its own power supply as it is powered by induction through the key reader. If you glue the transponder chip to the key reader this will work but I highly advise against it for a couple of reasons.
Firstly and most importantly, it will void your insurance. Your car is fitted with an immobiliser system to comply with the ADR, by gluing the chip to the key reader you are bypassing the immobiliser system, also making it easier to steal. IF your car were to get stolen and the insurance company had it investigated to see how ( It happens) then they would see that the system was bypassed, therefore you wouldn't get see a cent of your insurance money.
Secondly, if you then get another key that has a transponder chip in it and try to start it with this key, even if it is not programmed, it can cause issues with the immo system, sometimes it might start, others it wont and eventually it will go into a lockout. if you don't know how to reset the lockout then you will be waiting a while with a non running car.
And last, if the chip falls off ( I have had this happen a few times) then your car wont start, if the chip is lost or damaged it will be bad news for you to get it going again.
I know that it seems like a lot of money to get a spare key and have it done properly but I suggest getting a quote for your car if you had no keys. Through a Locksmith it will get expensive as you need a valid key to gain access to the immo system on a lot of these newer cars, there are ways around it but the dollars add up. The other option is the dealer which not only will you be waiting 2 weeks without your car, you need it towed to the dealer.. Can you be without your car for a couple of weeks?

Hey mate Ive got a key fob that came with a ccm im installing into my golf but the led on the keyfob doesnt light up anymore, does it mean its stuffed? Ive changed the batttery but still nothing. Had to wire in the ccm as my car originally only had a one plug ccm and swapped it out to a two plug and wired in the power and antenna side of it. Can I swap over the top of my old key and use a new transmitter bottom part to work?
The remotes can be reused so you can have your original remote coded into the car. If the LED isn't lighting up then there is a big chance that it's stuffed. They can also put out a frequency and still not work.
Mk4 golf. Atm im trying to get a 433 mhz system (from a bora) to work as the part number starts with 1J0
I did try a GTI system which is 1c0 but wiring is all different and is 434mhz. I switched the batteries around and it flashed once but never didnit again. Anyway to check the chip?
