Ive got Michelin Pilot Preceed/Preceda's on mine atm.

Came on my MK4, but alot of reviews say as grippy as Potenza's, just not the life out of them. I can't fault them, little wheelspin with a Revo Stg 1 tune. Pretty low but still awesome in the wet.

what are you trying to get out of them? Longer life? Best traction? Low noise?
        Also ball park price?
Im guessing u have 225/45/17s? Or did the gti come with 16s? Not all of use know whats standard on these cars...

iv got the factory 16s on my stock wheels, iv got no problems with these. And continental DWS on my daily 18" wheels and i love them so far.

Hi Dylan.Mate car has (stock I assume) 205/55/16s.On the car when I bought it last year.Be happy to find a tyre that offered a little bit of all of the above!! ha ha.Nah I reckon long life, traction and under $180ish??Noise not such an issue.but would be gbreat to find a tyre that ticks all the boxes.
Also can you go a lower profile??

mate try the Kumho Ecsta KU31, i have a set on my rims and am quite suprised with the performance vs price

your looking at way under $180 a pop

yes you can go a lower profile if you want, but it will throw out your speedo and looks wack on car that is still rollin at stock ride height

            but each 2 their own

            good luck

Ku31's are good for the price. Different size, but mine were 110 a corner.

yeah that size sounds right for 16s (i thought gti had 17s... my bad)
I had Kuhmos also in the past on other 18s and found them good.
Dont go lower profile unless you are making up for it in width (profile is % based...) or if you are low, as above it looks silly and speedo etc are out. i know from personal experience...
Cant remember what my 205/55/16s are... but Michelin Pilot rings a bell, i think they are a good all round tyre.
Best just to read some reviews and find something that ticks all your boxes.

I used to run 225s for the extra grip. Michelins were top for grip but the price and were rates were not the best.
Pirelli P7 were pretty good too but got a bit noisy as they wore.

When I moved to 18s I was shocked by the performance of Kumho Ecsta KU31, they were cheap compared to Michelin and Pirelli, even for 18s vs 16s. The grip in the dry was the same, a little less in the wet, the noise is about the same, the wear rate is a lot better.

I'm not sure you can compare 18inch to 16inch for traction and wear or not, but if it is a fair comparison then you should consider Kumho.

Kumho KU31s have a good reputation for price vs performance (grip, noise, longetivity).

I personally run Bridgestone RE001s at present, and am very happy with them.

Just wondering if it's worth buying these second hand tyres for $500?

                            Set of Kumho KU36 235/40/18, 70-80% tread

FYI KU36 is a semi slick tyre. Is that what you want on your car ?
It is a very soft and fast wearing rubber. KU36 treadwear is 180 KU31 is 320.
