Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

PS if you have a missfire, it's more likely to be the ignition amp in the airbox or a duff plug in my experience.

Thanks dude. I'll send him a message.
Racq came out and was definitely a coilpack. (he had a coil pack tester)
Plugs are no more than 10k old and they're platinum plugs. Should last longer than that.
I thought it was the ignition module. Hmmm.
        I need to buy vagcom
        Anyone wanna sell one?? Haha

It wouldn't tell you anything. Disconnect the bad coil pack, at tickover, then swap it with another and try again. If the amp has gone it'll be the same cylinder effected. If the coil pack has gone the miss will move.

I am still leaning towards the amp from personal experience.

problem is i dont have a coil tester like he did (it'd just run the same as it is and move cylinders without me knowing haha), hmm should i do the ignition module before the coil pack?!!?!

If you have a bad coilpack and disconnect it the engine note won't change. For example lets pick #4. You swap coilpacks 1 and 4 around then run it again. This time disconnecting the new #4 cause the engine note to change. Proving coilpack in #1 to have been the problem.

If disconnecting the new #4 made no difference the fault must be further up the line, ie the amplifier.

DIY test of power output stage/ignition amp module N122 (long & BWW) - AudiWorld Forums amplifier testing procedure.

i know the type of tester he would be using, will show up a fault on the coil if the amp was faulty anyway hahaha.
Its a swipe tester that he swoops over the coil, pretty dung really.
