To bump this up. I replaced the inner tie rod on the passenger side which was having the problem. And it's still there arch!! The top coilover nut is pretty tight so I'm pretty sure it's not that. The inner lip of my wheel is pretty close to the coilover, but probably has about 8mm of clearance surely he wheel wouldn't move that much that it could be hitting? Are there any other things I could replace or check that could cause the wheel too feel like it is wobbling(which i thought it was the coilover but now think it feels like the actual wheel)
Anyone with any input would be great!!

when you say the wheel is close, is that when you have the weight of the car on it? or car hanging by a jack?
becuase when weight is applied it will camber/suck in, then hitting the strut if its close to start with.
Wheel wobbling doesnt sound good... I remember reading about it on a mk3, but cant remember what they replaced...

Yeah I didn't check when it was on the ground only when I had it jacked up. But then again wouldnt it always be rubbing, because I only hear it when I am turning right and the noise is coming from the passenger side.

I was having a poke around today and I think I may be missing a wheel weight. Would this cause a wobbling only when turning not when driving straight?

nope. my A8s were fine in a straight line, turning they rubbed.
Put the wheel on, lower it off the jack, and try to get ur hand up behind the wheel and have a feel.
I worked out mine by putting the car on a 'drive on' hoist, could get under the car and see how the wheels sat under the weight of the car.

You are running no front swaybar at all? or the stock swaybar?

No swaybar at all as I'm too low and it rubbed.

do you run a sub frame brace up front at least?

Dub addiction has em for a decent price i bought one but lost it before i could fit it.

subframe brace? never even heard of people running these! I might just have to pull apart the whole assembly and replace as much stuff as i can to fix the problem. I've run out of ideas! haha

                        Lower stress brace mk4 - $119.00 : Dub Ad·dic·tion [duhb uh-dik-shuhn]

It's that, will tighten up the front end (since you aint got no swaybar), goes between the control arms hemming them up.

                        Cheers

So bit of a update on the noise, it wasn't my coilovers at all. It was axle bind. Totally surprised me because I'm not even nearly that low. I could even hear it when i was like 24.5 ftg. I'm probably a hair under 24" at the moment. But it was horrible, i basically couldn't drive the car. Felt like the wheel was coming off.

Anyways the way i found out was by reading up on Vwvortex on axle bind. And even though i thought it didn't apply to me, I thought i would take some advice from some of the people on there. What a lot of people said helped was to loosen the transmission side engine mounts and push your engine to the opposite side. So i did it today, and it basically got rid of about 90% of the problem. Still when i take really hard right hand turns you can slightly hear it, especially when i have passengers.

So what i am going to try to eliminate the whole problem is get 1" motor mount spacers and a frame notch. And this SHOULD get rid of all of the bind, and in turn help me get lower. Which i am pretty keen on doing!!!

Just thought i would let everyone know incase it might help some people to get lowwwww. I guess through all this i realise that it really does vary from car to car! some people can get down to 23 with very minimal axle bind, and i guess in my case if i went down that low i wouldn't even be able to drive in a straight line!

engine spacers = less drive shaft clearance... hmm wonder if mine has axel bind... i know i have a **** load of driveshaft rub on the frame. really need to get it notched and replaced because they are thin from memory.
can you describe your noise for me some more
I can barely push/brake my mid corner when going left because of the rub

The noise was just like the wheel was wobbling off. was really bad. Like had to corner at like 20ks to stop it doing it. It now only does it very slightly. But you have it turning left? Just driveshaft on the frame I reckon. You don't get anything when turning right? Strange! And your way lower than me!

Yeah with spacers I will definitely need a notch, maybe even passenger side notch.

i dunno. your car might be lower then mine. (im still now low enough )
yeah just the one side, because of the longer shaft going to the drivers side. turn left, body rolls to the right, rubbing.
are the gti boxes different to the 2lt ?
