just curious to know how much our MK4's weigh.
the handbook im guessing shows the german version not the australian version and cant find it on the net.
i really dont understand why theyre so heavy, mazda 3 is 1250kg i think the wrx is something like 1260kg, type r 1150kg
i guess quality dense metals were used to compile such a piece of art...
Despite its 20 valves, turbo and modern electronic engine management, the Mk4 GTI Turbo can't match even the earliest humble 1.6 GTi in terms of power to weight ratio. To have the same power to weight ratio as that early car, the modern Mk4 would need 162 bhp, to catch the Mk2 16v, a whopping 180bhp!
The Golfs reputation as the car that would corner on three wheels with steering that danced in your hands and a chassis that made the keen drivers eyes light up is a bit of ancient history now. The Mk4 Golf GTi is a far more urbane creature, looking disdainfully at such juvenile antics.

Thats gold Robin, so true.
Thats why a 20VT in an A1 would be the shizzle.

Well luckily the did give the Mk4 180hp its later life, but you're forgetting it has a shedload more torque than the Mk1/2 and a chip sorts it out anyway.
I'd kill for 1200 Kg, the MKIV R is the Cartman of the group at a piggy sized 1546 Kg. I need to weigh mine after taking out the seats speakers stereo etc etc etc
