  • Clunk sound on clutch engagement

    Hi all

I have a strange but light knocking sound when I am moving at decent speeds (over 30kph say) and engage the clutch. It is only audible if stereo is turned down, and seems to only occur on acceleration and upshifts rather than decel/downshift. Any ideas what it could be? I’m thinking I’m not staring at clutch failure (yet) but that this might be the actuator or related?

mine does it as well, i hadnt noticed it until someone pointed out to me now its driving me insane. I have put it down to the dual mass flywheel as there is nothing loose under the car, of course that is my theory anyway

Not sure how old yours is but mine has nearly 100k kms on it and still the original cluth as well, plan on doing the upgrade to the single mass f/wheel next service but from what I have researched they are incompatible, so if you change to a single mass f/wheel you have to change to a different clutch (The OEM dual mass flywheel use a rigid disc, when you change to a solid flywheel you need to use a sprung disc)

so if you look at the clutchmasters FX300 that is sold on ECS as the stage 3 that why there is either -R or -S after the part#

if it fixes it I'll let you know? are you running the oem clutch / f/wheel?

If you find the current noise is driving you nuts, you will probably hate the new chatter noise the single mass flywheel setup makes.

so does that happen when you are sitting stationary in traffic in neutral clutch disengaged or just on engaging/disengaging the clutch? other than the noise how do you find it?

I have not installed the Single Mass F/W or VR6 clutch as some people do.
I researched it when I needed a new clutch. I found people saying that they chatter when in neutral. And more vibration through the drive-train can be felt.
I went with a new dual mass F/W and standard clutch. My car is chipped and the original clutch got around 120,000km or 8 years, so the new one should too which is longer than I expect the car to live.
I did not want to introduce new noises to the driving experience. I like that I can drive smoothly and quietly with a baby asleep in the back, but rip the crap out of it a when I'm alone.

This is just my opinion, it suits me. You may have a different view that suits you.
