  • Thermo fans staying on

    Hi all,
I've got a mk4 golf 1.6 and the thermo fans are on constantly from when I start the car and stay on for 15 mins after the car is turned off. Anyone got any idea's? It keep getting a flat battery lol. Also I've just put in an all aluminum water pump and had yo remove the thermostat cos it was faulty so the car isn't even getting warmsao I got no idea why the thermos are even on :s

Look into the temp sensor and put a new thermostat back in, it is needed to get the engine up to temp. You will use more fuel until it warms up etc.

I had this problem on my passat and i thought it was the coolant temp sensor behind the engine but my dash instrument was showing the correct temp

it turned out to be the fan temp/switch which is located at the bottom of the radiator hose, (if your engine is the same set-up as mine)

have a look, if your have it, unplug it, and if your fans go off, thats your problem
