  • Dip stick funnel - POS

Well, went to check the oil level in the golf today, and I swear I almost had a cardiac infarction when the bloody dip stick funnel snapped. This is the ****ty plastic bit that the dip stick inserts. See this pic:-

Anyway, the whole thing has gone brittle and needs replacement. If this is a sign of things to come then it is time to get rid of it. Been a good car aside from 2nd gear going bang ( due to rivets ), windows collapsing (another design flaw) and interior electrics that are possessed I'm sure.

Anyway, the part no. is 06A 103 663 B and if your car is approaching 10 years, be careful when removing the dipstick.

I remember the day mine broke too. I snapped the ring pull off once as well.
Tube replacement is pretty easy just need an hex key.

ha, yeah when adjusting my right electric mirror, it moves my left one at the same time.
so i have to move the right one first, and then correct the left one.
other electric issues i had were when my accessories earth came loose (due to me not doing it up tight).

Your mirrors are working exactly as designed, a feature I love. Check the manual

My dip stick tube did the same thing about a year ago. Bought a replacement from Imparts in Brissie. Cost me less than $10.00 from memory

interesting! I was wondering how this odd behaviour was possible, was trying to think how! thanks
I'm the only one who drives my car so rarely have to adjust it, infact the only times i do adjust it is when i'm sitting at the lights with a car with poorly adjusted headlights blinding me, and I adjust my mirror to reflect the light back to the car behind me :p
When i fixed my right mirror back before taking off, I was surprised to see my left mirror completely messed up.
(obviously the sync plays up when you go to the extremeties)

for a 10yr old car i think a dips stick tube breaking, the odd window clips, and minor details like that is great.
The cars are well made and built to last imo

Makes it quicker to adjust the mirrors when the car is shared by several drivers.

Maybe just the AGU engine on the GTI. Had to take off a bracket below the throttle body.

                    Yes.
Also very handy when reverse parking, a quick push of the knob and both mirrors adjust to show the parking lines. I just wish the earlier cars did the auto mirror adjustment for reverse.

Thanks for the responses. Yeah, must admit the car is way better than my Astra. Now that car takes POS to another level !!

But doesn't the Holden badge make it superior to everything?

The window clip problem has been well documented, VW should have used metal instead of plastic. Mirrors moving together part of the design, quite clever. You can adjust Left first then Right to get preferred views. Dipstick breaking after 10 years, not too shabby I think, could be worse
