• Adding keyless?

Hey guys,

In Australia our early models didnt have Keyless entry right? Anyone used a kit to add it?
I have a 2001 Golf GTI. Still with the recaro's etc.

ECS tuning have a kit - looks like it would be pretty straightforward to do.

Volkswagen Golf IV 1.8T > Search > Keyless Entry Vw > ES#2090760 PKE Remote Door Lock System With Built-In KVW100 Window Module (2002 And Newer) - PV1-PKE-ADV

You'd want to check it was suitable for your year/model.

I just got an aftermarket one done by autobahn, simple lock unlock and that's it(circa $100 iirc). I discovered the kvw100 on ecs a couple of weeks ago and i think I'll be upgrading to that soon, I don't see why it wouldn't work for our cars.

ECS kit is 2002 and newer. Id say it is for cars WITH Keyless as mine is a 2001 and I know 2001 < should come with it.

I'd really like to know if there is a VW module.. Also will regular mister minit etc laser cut our keys? I can get the HUF brand blanks (same as factory) and a remote, but not sure if he'll cut.

I got one similar to this from my vw dealer:

Volkswagen Keyless Entry, 2006>2008 - ZGB6Q2052600

yet to fit it, but it looks very straightforward

This is the one I'd go with. I have bought and fitted one if these here in Australia to a mate's MK4 1600.

The ECS one is a bit of a mystery to me, I can't see how it is opening the doors?

The kit that was linked to is for 2002 and newer but ecs also have a kit for 1999-2001 cars, would that kit work with our cars?

I bought a lookalike mkIV flip key set off eBay for about 30 bucks or something. Wired it in in about 20 minutes. Bought a key blade off eBay for five bucks got it cut, transferred the chip from an old key and away I went!!! Although I did have too actually glue the new keyblade in and grind a slight amount off the end to make it fit. Looks legit tho!

hey mate, I don't think they need to be laser cut. I just went down to my local locksmith and he did it for $10!

undisclos3d,

Thanks for your post! That looks exactly like what i need. One extra problem i have is that I'm down to only one key now, the mother in law lost one last week! How can I get another compatible mobiliser chip? Or do I just get any chip and program the car to accept both of them with VAG com?

Cheers,

Sherwy.

Hey Sherwy, if you still have your SKC from when you bought your car you should just be able to vag com it and program the new transponder. If you've lost your SKC you can retrieve it with Vag Tacho if you don't want to pay the dealership.

I've posted up an ebay link in my how-to where you can source a new transponder chip (id4: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...der-61591.html It might also help you out with some other bits and pieces.

Thanks Ohsnap! That's a great guide! I'll order one of those transponders shortly. I have no idea what an SKC is but I'm guessing I don't have one as we bought this car second hand and it came without so much as a manual little own dealer documentation. A bit scary I know! What the difference between VAG com and VAG tacho?

Cheers,

Sherwy.

Ahh SKC stands for secret key code and is needed so you can program new keys. It came on a tag with the keys when the car was bought new, but for those of use who bought it second hand, VAG Tacho does a great job at recovering it.

Vag tacho from my understanding is limited to changing mileage (for new instrument clusters), making new keys, retrieving SKC's and also getting an EEPROM dump of your ECU (as well as being able to write to it).

vag com or vcds lets you monitor and log functions of your car as well as read any fault codes that might pop up, just a diagnostic tool.

Good luck with the keys!
