Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Oettinger ECU flash on New Beetle Turbo

    Hi All

Took the bug (2001 1.8 Turbo) in to Volkspower the other day to get the APR stage 1 flash.

Dean was on the phone to APR for ages as it just wouldnt take the flash. APR USA said it should work based on the engine code, etc but it jsut wouldnt fly. Dean even tried flashing a Mk6 Golf R that was in, just to rule out a problem with his PC.

Anyway long story short: because of the issues he ended up loading the Oettinger program and charged me the APR easter sale price. Since APR own Oettinger it looks like the programs are pretty much the same.

I've since driven my bug and a APR stage 1 MkIV GTI back to back and they dont feel any different. Anyone have a different experience/comments?

So just making this post in case anyone is researching this mod. As I had trouble finding much info about it

Cannot believe how much the car pulls in gear with the tune. 60-100 goes REAL fast.

I'm looking at flashing my wifes beetle but not sure if it's actually worth while, so if you get a chance can you find a ve ss commodore to have a race with and let me know how it goes, thanks in advance.

hahahaha. ok but if that VE SS turns out to be an unmarked cop car will you pay the speeding fine?

definitely worth wile in my opinion. Has transformed the feel of the car and gives more power in all the useful areas (low-down torque, in gear acceleration)

lol, our unmarked cars up here are all aurions and lancers, the commodores are too slow. the only reason i asked is that my wifes old car used to beat them and if the beetle doesnt after spending that sort of money she will hit the roof.

generic 1.8T flash is 110kw - 140+kw. Give or take, different engines, etc, but thats the ballpark.
Should go from liner power to big torque lump around 3k.

            And Golf GTIs !!

Yes it should beat the SS. I have beaten V8 utes to 60km/h on many occasions. They will pass you at 80 though.

Ya i could keep most SS commies honest in stock tune, should be interesting now.

Still struggle a bit once the big v8 gets into the revs.

Still funny to see their faces when they are whipped by such a homo looking car!

I was actually talking about from 100 up. But it's good to know that I don't need to waste the money. She's looking at other cars now.
