  • Mk4 R32 battery relocation

Hey guys, I recently purchased a light weight battery. It's not fitting in the front as I would like. So I have decided rather than do it half-arsed i am going to get an auto-electrician to fit it properly in the boot. This will allow more accessibility in the front and improve the balance of the car. I believe the battery in the mk5 r32 is in the boot?

I'm thinking fixing the battery in the spare wheel well will be the best option. Would it be better closer to the end of the wheel well or closer to the front?

Just wondering if anyone has previously done this? If so some pics would be great?

As far to the back as possible would be my vote. I'd even be tempted to fit the full size battery back there. There's a lot of weight over the nose and every bit you can do to counterweight this (within reason) will help.

Did you get a relocation sorted for your battery mate ?
Where did you end up putting it, any pics ?

Havn't got it completed sorted yet. Work has been crazy of late.

Currently the tiny battery is still in the front...can feel a difference just with that actually.

At this stage it will be relocated to the spare wheel well, over the rear wheels. However, I still researching the best location.

Just need to find a nice battery box and will get the auto electrician to convert. I'm thinking a marine battery box may work well.

Let us know how you go! I'm very tempted to do this, too...

I'd thought of sticking one there but means have to remove the space saver wheel !

Can you get a mount made for the rear passenger corner, right in front of the tail lights and then use this location on track days and refit the battery under the bonnet for street use (or even leave it at the rear for all times except when you really need the boot space)?

Mr JLT has a rear mounted battery from memory. Pretty sure there's pictures in his thread too.
                Cheers,
