You are going to be looking at an exhaust manifold, turbo, intercooler and piping, ECU tune, that's just the basic hardware. Then you have to get someone to do it if you don't have the experience... It's going to cost alot... Possibly well over 3G.

Or you get the 1.8L turbo out of the GTI, out of a wreck and drop it in with little or no engineering.

I would do the latter, but that's just me, and I'm not spending your money.

would it just be easier to buy a turbo kit?
also would the audi a4 2.0t manifold fit on the golfs engine?

buying a crashed mk4 gti would be a lot cheaper than a turbo kit. Not worth the effort though. Youre better off selling your car and buying a mk4 gti.. Its the cheapest way to upgrade.
Id think nothing from a A4 will fit. Completely different layout.

No. The 2.0L in your car is an 8 valve, but the 1.8L is a 20 valve.

As Tim said, you would be better off selling you 2L and then buying the GTI.

                  alright thanks guys!
is there any other mods you would recommend?
i have already installed a k&n high flow panel filter and a new exhaust system.
what else besides a turbo would get this golf going quicker and harder?

Remove every possible bit of weight from the car. Bumpers, Doors, boot, bonnet, fenders.

Here's a fool proof 2-step guide to make a your mk 4 2.0 go faster.
                      1. Sell it.
                      2. Buy a GTI.

                      Hope that helps.

Not a great deal you can do to the 2.slow. If you have a money tree in the garden, you could get some head work, cam and manifold but TBH if you made it to 100Kw you would be lucky. Best advice is save your money until you can get the real thing.

I know it's hard, we have all been young and wanted a quicker car. Don't fit things that you can't take off or transfer to your next car is my advice.

as the others have said. Sell and buy a gti if you want a turbo golf.
2l are slow, reliable and good on fuel. Thats it.
there is threads on vortex where guys have done everything they can to a 2lt other then turbo, and it only made the same power as a stock gti
if it was worth while i would have done it...
But if you do decide to turbo it please post up what you find

                            2.0L turbo???

                            There is an old saying
"Don't try to build what you can buy"
As everyone has said buy a GTI. There is a lot more to a GTI than the engine and if you bought a GTI you would get all of this (seats, trim, suspension, wheels etc etc etc)
No matter what you do to the 2.0L, no matter what mods you make or how much money you spend...it will still be a Golf 2.0L

There is a guy on Vortex in the Aus section "Erotas", he built a 2.0T with the help of Arthur from Exoticars in Sydney. Good person to ask about the details and nitty gritty of doing it.

I would always suggest just buying a GTI though, as mentioned by everyone above.
