Yes thats them , well they were in halves obviously to fit to the sway bar. These on the sway bar and inside the bush is the answer. You just need to take a measurement of the OD of the bar and call your local Stockist . Ill do one soon, time a biggie at the moment
          Cheers

I'm new here and have been scouring the forum for the last couple of hours, some very interesting discussions. I've had my 2001 V6 Bora 4Mo for the last 2 years and absolutely love the car to bits! But almost since the day i got it (i'm the 3rd owner), I've been experiencing a creak in the front of the car.

At first i thought it might have been something to do with the suspension but the creaking isn't consistent with the suspension bouncing up and down and the creak itself isn't always present. Generally when the car is cold there is no freak and as it heats up the creak is present. Then sometimes the creak starts up when i first start the car up for the day. We are talking quite a loud and damn annoying sound.

I've had a VW Specialist look at it and we began by replacing the bushes and sway bar links. The creaks disappeared for about a day or 2 and then reappeared. The next port of call is to change the ball joints over. Has anyone had a similar problem or any ideas on what it could be?

                Cheers,

                Geoff

I have had the exact sound come from my MK4 1.6 SE Golf. Took it to my VW specialist They found that it comes from the brake shield.
They did an adjustment and it has got considerably better. It comes back now and again, gave the offending area an technical "kick" , and it has stopped.

I know i keep posting about this, ive done the fixc in the past with an Audi TT successfully, will try my best when time frees up ( LOL) and ill do a test run on a couple of cars, i Know Gav needs his done and might use his as the pilot. Somebody please pester me about these otherwise due to hectic schedule. Guys you are indeed going to notice the noise more when hot, the exhaust sits right inbetween the 2 bushes
                  Cheers

useful link if you plan on doing it yourself

Please give credit where credit is due

one thing to note from experience is that if you buy sway bar bushes from ecs or you upgrade your 4motion sway bar to aftermarket r32 ones like I did you'll need to get the different brackets (P16 in the link 1J0-411-336-D)

had to grease mine a few times now so very keen on a long term fix
