  • Is this normal from the exhaust? (pic)

Started it up and gave it a moderate rev for no more than a minute.
    then saw this:

Got someone else to do the reving as i watched, and i couldn't see much smoke come out, though could see the black spots sort of appearing, like soot being thrown out sorta thing. it did smell a little too, bit of incomplete combustion I imgaine.

You don't normally get heaps of soot like that. A bit more information, was this just after starting up or had you driven a while? I'd say a well rich mixture normally but I think you'd would see that behind you on the road. ie Some black smoke, especially on acceleration.

Is this after your trip back from the Valley?

Have you noticed excessive fuel consumption?

was after a trip to the blue mountains a few days before the hunter. it had been sitting overnight and i started it the next day, did the reving pretty soon after starting so it was still warming up.
I do see smoke if i floor it in first and there's a car behind me to illuminate the smoke, but you can't really see anything in the daylight.
and as you know it runs rich on the dyno between 10 and 11:1.

Fuel consumption is fine, so I guess that might mean it may only run rich at WOT, and when revving in neutral. not sure if there's a correlation between those two scenarios. edit: i may have had it at WOT sometimes when revving it, but just not taking it to redline, can't actually recall.

so you were revving it and giving it WOT when it was cold? i thought that was bad for engines
