Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • V5 or V6

Hi guys, after owning two v5 auto's in the past many years ago, am looking at buying another Bora.
Im looking at either V5 manual or a V6 Manual.
I have never driven a V6 and would like some oppinions on weather its worth paying the extra 3 odd grand to buy a V6 instead of the V5, and what sort of power difference they have

The V5 was either 110kw or 125kw, depending on if it's an early or late model. Believe only came as a 5-speed in manual form.

The V6 in the Mk4 here was 150kW, with 270Nm torque. Only came as a 6-speed manual with Haldex AWD.

I'd pick the V6 over the V5 any day of the week, all other things being equal.

im looking at a cheap car as second car so have found a v5 man for $6500 or a V6 for $9000
is the power really that different in the two

The V6 4Motion is a substantially different car due to the extra power, torque and the totally different drivetrain (it's similar to the R32 in that sense).

If you're just after a cheap runabout, the V5 would do the job, but there's more fun to be had with the V6 4Mo.
