  • seeking all bora experts, proud new owner needs help

hi guys i have recently become the proud new owner of a 2002 v6 bora 4motion. (just today ordered a coil over set from bilstein, b14's i believe, anyone riding on anything similar?) Prior to this i had a golf III but unfortunatelly it is now in car heaven. I am really excited to have found this forum and I have so many questions that I would like to ask.

Most importantly thought my car makes a loud whistling noise when accelerating in 4th gear. It kind of sounds like the engine noise that comes through the speakers when a cars stereo is not wired up properly. This only happens in 4th and only when accelerating. The previous owner informs me that the noise was always there and that vw told him it is coming from the dif and that its harmless.. this sounds like bull to me. Has anyone experienced a similar problem or heard of anything similar? Any advise would be greatly apprecated.

    Hi dre211,

Welcome to the forum, good to have you on board.

Sorry I can't give any expert advice on the Bora, but it is illogical for the noise to be the diff when it is only occuring in 4th gear, the gearbox would seem to be the more logical source for the noise. Problem is of course knowing whether it is of any consequence and whether to spend time and money chasing it.

Time to find a good VW mechanic for an expert opinion I think.

    Cheers

        Hey there,

being a Bora V6 4motion owner, I can say I do not experience this issue that you do, I got mine last year.

        Hope that helps.

            Hi mate, welcome !

I don't get the noise in 4th. But while we are on the topic, does your clutch have a tiny bit of play at the top ? I think mine might need adjusting.

It is normal for there to be some free play in any clutch, I'd be surprised if the Bora would be an exception to the rule.

it was not so expensive considering had to pull out gearbox (think 800$ something) however this was for a wrx (jap car cheap parts)

Welcome aboard dre211 - I hope you get the noise sorted soon. If you want a VW specialist mechanic to have a look at it - try and pm Mk2 gti for a mechanic in Vic
