Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Mk4 2.0L Auto Transmission

    Hi guys,

I have been going through a number of threads over the past year or so now, got to admit there is a lot of valuable information to be found. Although the auto transmission has just been bugging me for a while now. I have read that they are a sealed unit and are a maintenance free unit until it goes boom.
My golf has done 107xxx kms now. Just curious how many of you fellow golf owners have had your auto transmission oils flushed and changed? I am aware VW dealers do it, but appearantly they don't recommend it as its a so called "Maintenance free unit". Im pretty keen to get it service. I have seen a few posts of guys having workshops out at Camden and Girraween. Might have to give them a call.
Please feel free to share experiences as its such a grey subject for me.

    Thanks,

    John

Best bet is to probably call someone like Matt from Camden GTI and have a chat about it.

Matt doesnt like Autos. Speak to Seb@Euroautomotive. He built up the auto in my VR6 and worked like a charm at the dragstrip!
