A mate recently hit a pot hole. Nothing out of the ordinary but bad vibration at 40~50 km/hr.
Inspection with the car on stands - RHS at least one blown CV (inner, closest to gearbox) and a leaking gearbox flange seal. Grease and debris has sprayed out of the small end of the CV boot. The drive flange area of the box is now covered with a spray of oil. Possible internal damage to the gearbox.
Mate is gutted as it did not feel like anything out of the ordinary.
ETKA lists four different drive shafts for a 1999 GTI (AGU). I was wondering if there is a preferred option. Perhaps a "heavy duty" version that has stood out? Otherwise I'll have another crawl under the car and try to read the part numbers off the shaft.
He's been quoted silly money for genuine parts. Anyone can recommend a local (NSW) supplier?
Cheers, MM
