I travel 100Kms a day to and from work. Its about 50/50 with Freeway and traffic-light stop start, although the freeway is extremely congested during peak times and there are points of stop start there too. I have a long term average of 6.3L/100Km and that includes using airconditioning as its dam hot in Perth in the Summer! The old girl (1.6L generation - 2004 ) has also just clocked 151,000Km.

How accurate are the gauges on mk4's ? Brim the tank, reset the odo and when you next fill up calculate your economy based upon km driven and fuel used. If they're anything like the gauges in N14 pulsars then you might not be getting as bad economy as you think.... That said i've always found my mk4 to have a pretty accurate gauge.

i average 350 - 420km a tank of premium, when i drive normal i can get around 400km+ from one tank but usually i dont i always have a heavy foot, i get around 300 - 350km when driving car hard. i dont know if this is normal but i drive alot i fill up every 4 to 5 days, for a 1.6L 8V i thought i would get way more out of it.

Just as a follow up, with quite a bit of hard driving on this tank (the first since the timing belt replacement) I got an extra 12kms out of the tank before the light came on, will be doing spark plugs soon too (geez, whoever buys this car will have everything mechanically done by the time I can sell it!!) so that will hopefully improve economy toosigpic

Sirmoe - you're not alone with a thirsty 2.0 ... Mine drinks quite heavily and I get maybe 450km to a tank. Had it scanned tonight (thanks again Gavin - h100vw) and everything appears fine. I don't baby it, but I don't exactly flog it either so I'm at a loss as to why I don't get better fuel economy. I go through oil as well so I'd be interested to know if you do too.
At the moment I'm looking at replacing the thermostat and the O2 sensors just in case they are not quite right - my temp sensor (green type) scanned fine - then again everything scanned fine so maybe it's just the way things are.

Also check injectors, I'm not that clued up on petrol injectors, but I do remember when I had the Hilux diesel, as soon as the injectors were rebuilt and all cleaned out, I got an extra 80-100kms out of a tank. If the fuel isn't attomising properly out of an injectector, it can cause a faulty compression (in a diesel anyway) and I'm guessing it would a similar situation in petrol, so when your O2 sensor takes it's readings, it pumps more fuel in to compansate maybe....sigpic

I actually have a new thermostat sitting on my desk, o2 sensors are a costly exercise from what I hear?

I got a box of parts for this upcoming service, hopefully one of them does the job.
However o2 sensor has crossed my mind, anyidea on price / how many there actually are to change? etc2014 MK7 R
