Has your son's Golf had the timing belt and water pump changed? That's the thing you need to be the most weary about in my opinion.

I was quoted AUD$ 1,200 to have the clutch replaced locally from a VW specialist, it didn't include a new flywheel. Instead I'll be purchasing a kit from ECS (with flywheel) and having it installed when the time comes - labour is probably another $400-600.

FYI a few mods done to the Mk IV will make it quicker than a stock Mk V GTI, but mod the Mk V and you'd be back at square one.

If I could do it again I'd get a mk5 gti and get the same power for a lot less hassle...

Yes, the water pump and timing belt were done at 90K.
Anyone had any experience with tunes that suit 95RON fuel? There is very little 98 available around where he lives and 95 was $2.17 NZ per litre when I was there on the weekend. I have seen that APR does 95 tunes in the US haven't seen much about them in AUS.
